AIRLINE TRAVEL MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
As you may already know, during holiday times flights get booked far in advance, so make your travel plans early. Also, the earlier you make reservations, the better chance of getting a lower fare. Some airlines will sometimes offer a discounted youth/student fare. Prices and packages are constantly changing. Call and check with specific airlines before making travel arrangements. The best way to get to the airport is usually by taxi. We recommend making an advance reservation during holidays and semester breaks.
BUSES-MIAMI Aside from the Metrorail, Metro-buses can transport you around the city and to the local suburbs. These buses can take you many places where the Metrorail does not go. You may call for specific times of departures and destinations.
BUS-LONG DISTANCE The bus company listed can take you as far north as Vermont and as far west as California. Thus, if you are planning a ski vacation in Vermont or headed to Daytona, Florida for Spring Break, it may be most advantageous to take a bus, since the cost is usually less than half of a plane fare.

METRORAIL This elevated railway system runs completely through Dade County both North and South covering over 21 miles. This service covers areas downtown to Miami, west to Hialeah, and south to Kendall. The Metrorail runs a daily route from 5:08 a.m. to midnight. For just $1.25 one-way, you can travel from one end of the Metrorail to the other. A monthly pass will cost you $60. The majority of stops have parking available for $1 during the week and free parking during the weekends. This is a great option for the games. You will save money and the hassles of finding a parking spot.
TAXI SERVICES
During your time in Miami, there will be many instances when you will need a taxi service. If you need to get somewhere quickly, a cab is usually quicker than the Metrorail. If you are traveling somewhere after midnight, it is basically your only choice. Also, for the sake of convenience and ease when traveling with luggage, your best bet is again a cab. Taxis can be rather expensive in Miami, but if you take advantage of sharing and using the right companies, it is well worth it. Remember to give yourself extra time during holiday rush times and bad weather, since all of the cab companies are at their busiest.

TRI-RAIL
This is a commuter rail with 15 stations which runs throughout Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. It services the area between Miami and West Palm Beach. This system connects directly with Metrorail at no additional cost. This service is closed only on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
RAILROAD STATION
Amtrak 8303 N.W. 37 Ave., Miami (305)835-1221 (800)872-7245 Amtrak, operating a station in Miami, provides a relatively inexpensive means of travel to most areas of the upper eastern seaboard. Long distance destinations usually require a connection. So, if you live in any of these areas or are going for a visit, a train should be a less expensive means than flying. They do not have student fares, but they do have better prices for advance purchases. If taking an Amtrak train, you can board at 8303 N.W. 37 Ave. You can take the Metro Transit to the stop and then take a Metro Bus which is only 3 blocks away. We recommend that you get there early, especially during a holiday travel time. (Thanksgiving Weekend tends to be the worst.) If you have some luggage or want to avoid the time and hassle of taking the Metro, we suggest that you take a taxi cab to the Amtrak Station (especially during busy travel times). |
